Hi, my name is Jason Torbert and I’m Goddamn Electric Bill.
Back in 2004 I was playing bass in a dysfunctional rock band that felt at times like The Brian Jonestown Massacre in the documentary, Dig! If you’ve never seen it, watch it. It’s great. It’s chaos. I was deeply unhappy and needed to find a better musical outlet, so I started making my own songs and posted them on MySpace. I absolutely thought no one would listen.
Here in San Diego, the word got out. Goddamn Electric Bill was nominated for multiple music awards and was featured in several local publications. Soon after, music placements started to roll in. I even had the honor to work with Roger O’Donnell, keyboardist of The Cure, on my first full-length album in England. Over the years, I’ve had music on many TV series, films, and even composed a movie that was in competition at The Sundance Film Festival in 2010.
Well, I quit that shitty band in 2005 and fully embraced going solo. It has been the best musical decision I have ever made.
Also, something I’m very proud to share is that every single dollar I have made with Goddamn Electric Bill, since the beginning, has gone right back into itself. So, thank you to everyone that has purchased a CD/MP3/Vinyl Record/T-Shirt or streamed a song online. You’ve made it possible for me to continue doing what I love.
